Only prayer gives us the deeper intimacy with God that we were created to enjoy. And now Germaine Copeland helps believers discover a more intimate relationship with God through the daily prayer devotional, 365 Days to a Prayer-Filled Life (Multnomah Books, on shelves October 5, 2010).

From the beloved author of Prayers That Avail Much® comes fresh inspiration for powerful living that will take readers on a day-by-day prayer excursion to God’s heart. Germaine encourages believers to make the primary goal of prayer unbroken fellowship with the eternal God of heaven and earth, and not to view Him as merely a “Great Vending Machine in the Sky.” The book unpacks core biblical themes such as joy, unity, spiritual gifts, overcoming fear, the Holy Spirit, walking in love, and the power of words, while helping readers understand the purpose of prayer. Each daily entry includes a devotional message, Scripture-based prayer, and suggested Bible reading.

365 Days to a Prayer-Filled Life will remind readers everyday that prayer can make a difference, God’s promises are true, and His mercies are new every morning. For those longing for a deeper, more intimate relationship with their Father, this book will help believers reconnect with God through a vibrant prayer life!

What Does Your Faith Look Like - Stripped Down?

by Liz on December 9th, 2009

We have a tendency to complicate Christianity. Jesus simplified it with one commandment: Love God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength. In Primal (Multnomah Books, December 22, 2009) Mark Batterson explores the four elements of Great Commandment Christianity: compassion, wonder, curiosity and power. Along the way, he calls Christians to be a part of God’s reformation, starting in their own lives.

“Is there a place in your past where you met God and God met you?” asks Batterson. “A place where your heart broke for the things that break the heart of God? In that moment, God birthed something supernatural in your spirit. You knew you’d never be the same again. My prayer is that this book would take you back to that burning bush—and reignite a primal faith.” Batterson says that that moment may have been during a sermon, on a mission trip or at an altar, but regardless of the time or place, a return to a primal faith is essential to all believers.

According to Batterson that primal faith will lead Christians to a new reformation, an overhaul of the way they love God. “Reformations are born out of primal truths rediscovered, reimagined and radically reapplied to our lives,” he says. And the importance of rediscovering the need to love God with all that we are can’t be measured. Primal will help readers live in light of what matters most and discover what it means to love God, becoming great at the Great Commandment.

Mark Batterson is the author of Wild Goose Chase and In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. He serves as lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C. One church with nine services in five locations, NCC is focused on reaching emerging generations. Mark has two Masters degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago. He and his wife, Lora, live on Capitol Hill with their three children. www.markbatterson.com

Christ Our Mediator | C. J. Mahaney

by Matt McCarnan on September 11th, 2007

Christ Our MediatorC. J. Mahaney. Christ Our Mediator: Finding Passion at the Cross. Multnomah, 2004. 96 pp.

What’s the Key to Having More Passion for Christ, the Cross, and the Gospel?

The answer is to look at the death of Christ not from our point of view, but from God’s. That’s what this book helps you do in a profound, strategic, and life-changing way.

Author C. J. Mahaney exposes our human tendency to look at the Savior’s death (and at everything else!) through our own subjective feelings and impressions, rather than from the standpoint of objective truth. By nature we always begin with ourselves rather than with God. But by following the God-first “Divine Order” in how we think—and by asking “What do I believe?” instead of “How do I feel?”—we’re freed up to embrace the right truth in the right way. The right feelings quickly follow, and they’re reliable because they’re anchored in truth.

Stop Dating the Church! | Joshua Harris

by Matt McCarnan on June 14th, 2007

Stop Dating the ChurchJoshua Harris. Stop Dating the Church! Fall in Love with the Family of God. Multnomah, 2004. 144 pp.

Putting in their hour or two on the weekend, many Christians take the rest of the week off, neglecting the church and her needs. It’s not a serious relationship. Some shop around, looking for a church that suits their lifestyle. It’s dating, with no assurances, no obligations. Bestselling author Joshua Harris calls Christians to stop playing the field and commit, just as Christ is committed to us, His bride. In his new book, Harris explores the ramifications of Ephesians 5:25–32, which proclaims the intensity and the breadth of Jesus Christ’s love for His church. God has designed us to build our lives around a local church; we cannot be indifferent or uninvolved. Rather, we must be in love with and committed to God’s plan and purpose through the church. Are you dating the church, or are you committed?
